Sample Of the Week – Wiz Khalifa’s “Ink My Whole Body”

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on 2 Mar 2011

“In music, sampling is the act of taking a portion, or sample, of one sound recording and reusing it as an instrument or a different sound recording of a song.” – Wikipedia.

Ever since the conception of hip hop in the mid 1970’s, sampling has become a commonality in almost every genre of music. Today, some of the tunes we have grown to love have been sampled and structured upon records that were created long before many of us were even born. I find it quite unfortunate that these original records do not receive the recognition they deserve, which is why I have created “Sample of the Week”. Every Sunday I will post a song that has been sampled by some of the biggest names in the music industry today. The point of all this is to not only showcase the talents of the originators, but to also display the genius of today’s musicians as to how they manipulate an original song to make their own record.

To start things off, Today’s original sample comes from the Blackbyrds’ “Mysterious Vibes”. This sample was most notably taken by Wiz Khalifa’s “Ink My Whole Body”. Both versions cause the speakers to go hammer.

Until next week: peace, love, and happiness.

The Fashion Faux Pas(s)

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on 31 Jan 2011

Known Fact: The invention of sagging pants comes from a long history of JAIL BIRDS. That’s right, the ever so classic ‘sag below your bum’ jean wearing phenomena comes from people who are living in a tiny barred cell.

It was said that criminals used to hang themselves with their belts in jail, resulting in a “no belt” rule. This became the birth of wearing your pants way below your natural waistline.

Well gentlemen, fashion faux pas numero uno: SAGGING PANTS.

I must say, the skinny jean trend has caught on nicely, but there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t see at least one guy who has missed the memo that your bottom isn’t a work of art, so it shouldn’t be on display. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not asking for all the men in the world to turn into Urkel replica’s, however, Urkel is a step up from this untrendy swag.

The worst thing about the saggin’ pant would have to be the penguin walk that accompanies it. Attempting to be sexy with that dangerous appeal while wobbling from side to side can’t impress anyone let alone a respectable female. Nothing is worst than attempting to get a girl’s number and tripping over your two left feet created by the restricted pant sag. It not only is utterly repulsive to look at an ass in the Simpsons boxers but, hazardous for your health.

Whether you prefer to wear a pair of Levis jeans or Cheap Monday jeans, buy the appropriate size; it’ll make your J-Mount Tee look that much better.

The camera is arguably one of the most important of all inventions…

It is the single tool that has the ability to stop time, record history, generate art, tell stories,
and communicate messages that transcend language like nothing else ever conceived.”

Did you know when you look at peoples faces you don’t remember them by their facial features, but as a mathematical equation in your brain.  Similarly strange is with photography.  When looking at a photo the part you remember is actually the brightness.  The dark parts (shadows) and the lightest parts (highlights) are what are interpreted by your brain first, not the colours.  Black and White.

Luminance.

Black and white photography was the ORIGINAL. The first time someone saw photos of himself or herself in black and white it made an imprint.  Some think photos take people’s souls.  Yet really the opposite is true, it preserves their souls.  But why are black and white photo’s still so appealing.  Even in film’s, black and white is IT.  Citizen Kane, Sunset Boulevard.  What might be more interesting, is that the first photographs taken were by scientists who were experimenting with small pinhole type cameras and chemical papers, which would react to, you guessed it, LIGHT.  Light would spill across the paper and depending on its strength leave highlights or shadows.  Although black and white is commonly thought of as, the oldest ‘colour’ of photo, the first photos were actually taken in brown tones, because of the paper they were on.  Not only did black and white photography make an impact on the world for the fact that people could capture a moment pristine like you would see it, other than an artist’s painting of a scene but black and white was the leader even when colour photography came along.  Black and white cost less and, like it still does today, gave photos a very specific classic look.  I don’t know if it is because of the old style people had when photography was invented that make black and white photography look ‘old’ but it does.  What black and white photo gives is everything our eyes look for, light patterns.  Interestingly enough, even when thinking of old memories, most people’s brains will remember a few things.  Smell, sound, and luminance. Think of a the last girl’s face you loved, if you can remember it without even looking at a photo, I bet you remember her eyes, laugh and mostly the concaves of her face, the way she looked in the day and the way she looked in the night.  All in all, you remember what she looked like because of LIGHT. Light is the most important always, without light we wouldn’t have vision or any photographs, and all of our memories would be only sound and smell.  We would dream by sound, not image. That is why black and white photo’s work to capture someone so perfectly, because they give us all we needed to begin with.

Memory.

Next time, JUMP Black and white MOUNTAIN.
